A field of Gooseberries

Blackberries
and Blueberries

I finally met a real Gooseberry on a very berry enjoyable day trip to a local Berry Farm the day before we headed off for a busy two week family holiday throughout Qld and NSW. My reason why I've been away from this space for a while.
A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all
Another busy year ahead for us, how about you?

  1. Well thanks for sharing as I've never seen a gooseberry either, that basket looks delish. Hope you had a great holiday and it didn't make you too homesick for the farm. mel x

  2. That berry picking looks great! I'm making a note of it, for when we move from Sydney to Bathurst in March - it isn't far to travel, especially for fruit like that.

Once we have moved, part of settling in is to find these sorts of treasures in the area. I'm looking forward to it!

  3. Hope you have had a lovely break Karen, and a wonderful Festive Season with your family.
Loving the berry photos - so that's what real gooseberries look like, not the Cape Gooseberry we Qld'ers are familiar with!! I can just imagine the lovely things you baked with those beauties. Enjoy the different seasons there, and hope that the fires are staying away from your neck of the woods. All the best for 2013. cheers Wendy

  4. I didn't realise that people actually grew Gooseberries to sell. I remember them growing in our yard as a kid, but they always seemed more like a weed than a real fruit!

  5. What a treat! I have each of those in small quantities and have to rashion myself at breakfast. Its looks fantastic to see them in such abundance - and then to have a basket full, heaven! Nice to have you back by the way

  6. When I was young our front garden was nearly all gooseberry bushes with some rose bushes round the sides, which seems quite odd but I guess my Mum liked gooseberries! I love them just stewed or in a crumble with custard on.

  8. What a lovely way to spend a day. Berry picking looks delightful and you got your gooseberries at last!
Did you eat them all with no time for making jam?

  11. My grandparents are from Latvia where gooseberries are quite common, so for them it was strange to arrive in the US and find that gooseberries and currants were outlawed due to being cohosts to white pine blister rust. I think some some states still do not allow their sale, but eventually the family farm had a whole field of red and black currants, blueberries and of course, gooseberries. A lovely post, visiting from Coal Valley View.
